A lovely spring day greeted this ride to St James’ Church, Cameley, described by Betjeman as ‘Rip Van Winkle’s Church’ – asleep for centuries and virtually untouched.
The ride followed the Whitchurch Way and quiet lanes through the picturesque rural villages of Publow, Pensford and Clutton to visit this gem, now owned by the Churches Conservation Trust.
The lunch stop at the Ring O’ Bells pub in nearby Hinton Blewett gave fine views of the Mendip Hills. See the attached pdf of Chris’ notes about the Church. It was great to see such a good turnout for Alan’s Ride. People really seemed to be enjoying themselves. Click for more on St James’ Church.
