Plans are in place for a late Spring weekend cycling trip to Birmingham.

The plan is to travel to Birmingham on Saturday June 4th (1pm start) to Monday June 6th (approx 1pm finish). by train or car-share etc., with a view to a half day cycle Saturday pm, a full itinerary Sunday 5th, and an extended half day itinerary on Monday.

The plan is to do a series of short easy urban rides and making full use of the extensive local canal network, including the 2 attached Rides. These routes are taken from Push Bikes, the Birmingham Cycle Campaign website, and would suit the 2 half days. I will also plan an easy day ride for the Sunday.

I would like to be flexible as to how we use the time and include some non-cycling sociable activities that we could agree as a group. These could be some of the following:

Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, the newly transformed New Street station, Blakesley Hall, and the Library of Birmingham that opened in 2013, CAMRA Heritage pubs such as The Anchor or White Swan in Digbeth, meal out in Chinatown etc.

If you’ve not been recently, and coming from congested Bristol, you’ll be amazed at the tranformation and creation of a real ‘Living Heart’ in Birmingham.

Currently the National Rail website is showing outward travel at £17.80 as an indicative cost (return price/times not yet shown for the date) .

As an indication of possible overnight accommodation Booking.com are currently showing Single Rooms for this weekend at under £40 per person/ per night in well-rated lodgings (ratings of 8.5 out of 10).
