Making Bristol better for cycling

How a healthy streets approach will help Bristol bounce back – our July 2020 webinar [updated]

How has Bristol responded to the Covid19 crisis and how could the Healthy Streets approach aid our development of streets for people?

After the success of our first webinar event (The Future of Cycling in Bristol – Webinar May 2020), we are delighted to share the recording of our July webinar. This was jointly hosted by Bristol Walking Alliance and Bristol Cycling Campaign with over 100 people attending on the night, a fantastic response.

We were really pleased with the engagement and feedback on the night, including:

“I’m seeing Park Street now from a totally different perspective of what might be possible”

“Thanks everyone, fascinating and inspiring”

“So insightful, thank you to all”

We shared our thoughts on what Bristol has done to respond to the need for more space for walking and cycling. We discussed about what we like, what we want to see more of and how Bristol’s response compares to other cities.

For the second part of the webinar, we heard from public health expert Lucy Saunders who described how the Healthy Streets Approach could help Bristol move forward as it develops its walking and cycling plans. Lucy is a world-renowned expert who created Healthy Streets and then worked with Transport for London to implement it across Greater London. She now works with other cities and regions looking to deliver streets for people at pace and scale.
